Beautiful, hand painted Chinese export ware with raised designs, borders, etc. and features 3 bordered panels (1 with people scene, 2 different floral arrangements with butterflies.  Intricate floral design in between the bordered panels with highlights of gold and terracotta tone bands around the base of the cup and inside rim and edges/centre of the saucer.  No manufacturers' mark. The inside of the cup and under the saucer base is plain white.  Cup has a flat speckled effect throughout the glaze surface, has 2 brown hairline cracks and chips on both the cup and saucer...giving the set some extra olde world charisma !!!!!  Please refer below for further information, as this set has been acquired from 2 estates within the same family of avid collectors, boxes were marked pre 1890s and research indicates the set to be circa mid 1800s.

The following information has been extracted from different websites regarding the Rose Canton, Rose Medallion and Rose Mandarin designs.  We are not experts in this area of Asian export ware, and there is some variance in the online design descriptions (i.e. Rose Canton shows as no birds on some site and others with birds, etc. ??).   Please feel free to browse our ebay shop for similiar 'buried treasures' from this estate.

Cup measures approximately 6cm high (including 1/2cm pedestal base) x 8.5cm diameter rim, saucer is 2.5cm high x 14.75cm diameter.

..."Rose Mandarin china is similar to Rose Canton and Rose Medallion. If the panels in the design feature only people and not birds, it is called Rose Mandarin and is one of the three famille Rose patterns seen most often and made in China during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It is a distinctive design with four or more panels of decoration around a central medallion that includes a bird or a peony.   The Rose Medallion design, the panels show birds and people and the background is a design of tree peonies and leaves. Pieces are colored in greens, pinks, and other colors.  The Rose Canton design is once again similar to Rose Mandarin and Rose Medallion, except no people or birds are pictured in the decoration and is seen less often than Rose Medallion or Rose Mandarin.  Other designs also include just butterflies, foliage and insects"...

**Condition (please read before purchase):   Please refer to all photographs.  This set is part of 2 family estates and estimated around 150 years old.  As mentioned above, both the cup and saucer have chips, 1 visible on the saucer, 1 on the cup + 2 brown hairline cracks on the crack, 1 on the saucer.  There are some rough spots around the bases of each, pitting / fissures under the saucer and black speckled effect on the inside of the cup plus other general wear.  However, the design and colour is still quite exceptional and as with any hand painted piece, there are some irregularities with features, design, colour, uneven lines, etc...all giving it old world charm and character !!!   Colour of actual items may be slightly different to photographs due to camera flash/exposure.  If you have any questions, please email prior to purchase.
